Sporting '95G are SemiFinalist at Mustang Stampede

The Sporting ’95G (U14 Team) reached the Semifinals of the Nike Mustang Stampede, Gold Division last weekend (August 8th-9th).  They faced a very talented team from Southern California, the Exiles in game one.   After Sporting missed several opportunities early, The Exiles countered with a few goals of their own and defeated Santa Clara 4-1.  Sporting’s second game was against one of their league rivals, The Burlingame Blitz.  The girls came out ready this time and beat the Blitz 4 - 1.  The third game was a must win game against the Castro Valley Green Machine to advance out of bracket.  Sporting lost one of their ODP forwards early in the game to a bad ankle injury.  It was 0-0 late in the game and the Sporting girls, earned a corner.  The ball was served into the goal box and the Sporting center mid lunged through the crowd and put the game winner in the back of the net with a diving header.  In the Semifinals, the girls fought hard, but with so many injuries and missing one of their top goal scorers, they took a tough loss to the eventual champions, NHB from Southern California. With five new players, the girls are still getting use to each other and should be ready to go by the Fall season! Congratulations to the players and coaches.
