Sporting U10 Boys Win Nomads Tournament

The Santa Clara Sporting '94 U10 Boys team won the prestigious Nomads
Thanksgiving Tournament on November 25th-26th in San Diego. The team
finished the three-day tournament with 5 wins and 1 tie with 19 goals
scored for Sporting and 7 against the team. During bracket play, the
team tied Albion White (CS) 2-2, beat SCYSSO Camp Elite (CS) 6-0, and
defeated the Del Mar Sharks (CS) 1-0. Sporting played a very tough
quarterfinal game against Sereno White (AZ) and won 2-1 in penalty
kicks. They met and defeated their local rivals, the SCC Breakers
White (CN) 3-1 in the Semifinal match. Santa Clara played CV
Manchester (CS) in the Championship game. Manchester was this year's
Surf Cup champion, and they scored first with 2 goals. Sporting then
tied up the game before the half, but Manchester scored at the
beginning of the second half. Sporting tied it up immediately, then
scored two more goals in the final five minutes of the game. The final
score was 5-3; it was an exciting game! Congratulations to all the boys

SC Sporting Mens Team Win 2006 League Championship

The Santa Clara Sporting Mens team won the 2006 San Francisco Soccer
Football League last weekend. The championship team has a group of
players who once played for Sporting when they were youth players from
the age of 10 on through U19, then left to play in college, and have
now returned after graduation. The San Francisco Soccer Football
League
(SFSFL) was founded in 1902, and is one of the oldest
semi-professional and amateur league in the United States. Since its
inception, the SFSFL has developed into one of the most cosmopolitan
leagues in the country and produced memorable teams, players,

Sporting Teams Crowned 2006 Fall Season Champions

Five of sixteen Santa Clara Sporting soccer teams won their 2006 Fall
Season League titles last weekend. The Sporting 94Girls (U13) finished
in first place in the CYSA Abronzino Class 1 Division 1 league. They
finished the season with a 8 win 2 loss record, scoring 27 goals and
only allowing 5 into their net during the 10 game season. Six players
from the 94 Girls team were recently selected to tryout for the
Cal-North State ODP Team in 2007. Twelve girls made the District 2
ODP Team this year.

On the boys side, the Sporting 95 (U11), 94 (U12), 93 (U13), 92 (U14)
teams all won their league championships. Santa Clara's U11, U13, U14
teams easily won their Class 1 Division 1 brackets, and the U12 team
won their Class 1 Division 2 bracket and will move-up to Division 1
competition next spring.

Sporting '94 Girls Make State ODP Selection

Six athletes from the Sporting '94 Girls Class 1 Team received
invitations to tryout for the Cal-North State ODP Team next March.
Kelly Skelton, Chloe Ainley, Gabriella Ley, Lindsay Mewes, Madison
Salom and Ana Marija Sola made the selection from their District 2 ODP
Team. The '94 Girls Team has a talented pool of players as nine of the
players (half the team) made the District 2 ODP Team this year.

U11 Sporting Girls 2006 the Clovis Challenge Cup Champions

The U11 Sporting Girls went undefeated with only one goal against to
become the 2006 Clovis Challenge Cup Champions.
The girls defeated the host California Odyssey's A team 5 - 0 in the
championship game. The girls had a lot of fun and represented the
club well. The highlights of the weekend was a bicycle kick goal from

Sporting Invitational Tournament Ranked #1 by GotSoccer.com

Santa Clara Sporting's 3rd Annual Invitational Soccer Tournament was just ranked the #1 tournament in Northern California by GotSoccer.com. Santa Clara Sporting would like to congratulate all the 2006 Sporting Invitational Champions and Finalists, and thank all 92 teams that competed in our tournament last weekend. We would also like to thank the City of Santa Clara, all the volunteers along with our SCSC Board Members for the enormous amount of work that went into the planning and running of this huge event. Sporting '90 Girls Take 2nd in Gold Division at San Luis Obispo North vs. South Tournament

Congratulations to Coach Greg and the entire U16 girls team for representing Cal-North at the SLO North vs. South Tournament. The team finished in 2nd place in the gold division after battling the Richmond Hill Raiders. - posted 8/20/06

Sporting U11 Girls Won Santa Cruz Breakers Cup

The Sporting '95 Girl's won the Santa Cruz Breakers Cup Tournament on August 5th-6th following an impressive 4-0 tournament record that consisted of an amazing offensive effort producing 24 goals in just 4 matches. Probably more impressive was the defensive play, as the team posted a shutout in each game allowing zero goals for the entire tournament! The team competed the following weekend at the Nike Mustang Stampede tournament in Danville. They went undefeated in their bracket to advance to the semifinals; losing to the Mustang Fury (eventual champs), but were the only team to score against the Mustangs the entire tournament. Sebastian Lletget Named to US National Team & Invited to West Ham United

Sebastian Lletget , a young midfielder on the Sporting U14 Boys squad was identified through the teams' accomplishments and selected to the Under-15 Boys US National Team last month. The thirteen year-old player recently returned from the US National Team Camp, and will depart for England after the Santa Clara Sporting Invitational Tournament (August 12-14) to train for three weeks with the West Ham United Youth Development Team. Mike Leigh, an Academy Scout for West Ham United, traveled from Australia to Santa Clara to scout and train the Sporting team. - posted 8/10/06

U13 Boys Team 2006 US Club Soccer Region G Champions

The Sporting U13 Boys Team coached by Carlos Brasil are 2006 US Club Soccer Region G Champions, and will now head to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete in the Nationals held July 22nd-25th. The team won their bracket, then defeated the Crossfire'92 Team from Henderson 6-2, and finished the tournament with a 4-2 victory over Santa Rosa United. U12 Boys Team coached by John and Kevin Azevedo finished in second

The Sporting U12 Boys Team coached by John and Kevin Azevedo finished in second place at the 2006 Region IV Finals on June 25th in Boise, Idaho. The Team tied for 1st place in their flight by defeating the MFRC Piranhas from Washington 3-0, tied the Sereno '94 team from Arizona 2-2, and beat the Woodburn Monarchs from Oregon 6-0. Sporting won their QuarterFinal game 4-2 over Neusport FC from Nevada, and decisively beat the Colorado Storm Royals 6-0 in their SemiFinal match. The team lost a very tough championship match 0-2 against CFC Italia III from Southern California and finished as Finalists in the tournament. Santa Clara Sporting to Host Vicenza Calcio Technical Directors at 3rd Annual SCSC Soccer Tournament

SC Sporting will play host to Paolo Baio and Giovannni Barbugian from the Italian Vicenza Calcio Professional Soccer Team this August as the two representatives plan to scout players ('91-'94) during their trip to Northern California. In conjunction with NorCal Premier Soccer, Santa Clara Sporting's Invitational Tournament will provide a venue for players to showcase their talent and possibly get an invitation to train and compete in Italy. - posted 6/15/06

Five Sporting Teams to Compete at 2006 Surf Cup Tournament

Congratulations to the following Santa Clara Sporting Teams who were invited to compete in the prestigious Surf Cup Tournament in San Diego this July. Sporting will send the U10 Boys Team coached by Cesar Sanchez, the U11 Boys coached by Demitri Cacoyannis, the U13 Boys (State Cup Champs) coached by John Azevedo, the U15 Boys (State Cup Finalists coached by Ruedi Graf, and the U11 Girls coached by Jim Lawrence. - posted 6/15/06

18 Sporting Players Selected to District 2 ODP Teams

Santa Clara Sporting had one of the strongest club showings at the District 2 ODP Tryouts, as 18 players were selected into their ODP Team Player Pools. These 18 players came from three Sporting Class 1 teams; the Boys U14 teams, and the Girls U12 and U13 teams. Congratulations to: Sanjay Padval, Michael Pegueros, Nicholas Salvemini, Andreas Silva, Michael Escobar, Chivon Crump, Ally Lockwood, Caitlin Brandman, Hali DePrima, Cheryl Tom, Kelly Skelton, Alexandra Walkey, Sarah Bennett, Rachael Fish, Sloan Lewis, Gabriella Ley, Madison Salom, and Ana Marija Sola. Sporting U12 & U13 Boys Win San Francisco Cup Tournament

Congratulations to the Sporting U12 & U13 Boys teams as they both finished in 1st place last weekend at the San Francisco Cup.  The U19 boys took 2nd place, and the U16 boys finished in 4th place. - posted 6/2/06

Sporting Players Headed to ODP Nike Friendship Cup

Four Santa Clara Sporting players were selected from their Cal-North State ODP Teams to compete in the 22nd Annual ODP Nike Friendship Cup in Beaverton, Oregon this weekend. Gustavo Silva, Spencer Rogers, and Richard Robledo will compete on the Cal-North '92 State Boys Team, and Kelsey Foo will compete on the Cal-North '93 State Girls Team. Good luck players!

Sporting U14 Boys Finish State Cup as Finalist

Congratulations to Coaches Ruedi Graf and Dan Silva, and the entire Sporting U14 Academy team for finishing as finalist at the 2006 CYSA State Cup Tournament. The team played MSC Chivas for the Championship game; had dominated the game but fell 0-1 at the end. The team is now preparing to attend the US Club Regional's in Boise, ID. - posted 5/7/06

10 SCSC Player Selected to State ODP Teams


10 Santa Clara Sporting athletes were named to their 2006 Cal-North CYSA State ODP Teams. The Sporting U14 Academy team may have the highest concentration of players from any team selected for State ODP. Ismail Adam, David Cabiles, Arnold Lopez, Spencer Rogers and Gustavo Silva were selected last weekend. Gino Rivera and Richard Robledo from the Boys U13 Team were chosen to State ODP Teams. On the girls side, Kelsey Foo was selected to the U13 Team, and Ashley DeMello made the U15 Team. Congratulations to all the players and their coaches for the huge accomplishment! - posted 3/14/06

Sporting U12 Boys Win 2006 State Cup Title & Ranked #6 in USA by National Soccer Rankings

Congratulations to John and Kevin Azevedo, and the entire U12 team for defeating the Mission Hayward team 2-1 to win the CYSA State Cup Championship. Sporting and Mission Hayward finished regulation play in a 1-1 tie, then went into overtime when Santa Clara scored the winning goal - posted 2/23/06
