Sporting 92s crowned U19 State Cup Champions

April 29, 2012

Congratulations to the Santa Clara Sporting 92 Boys Team for winning the U19 CYSA State Cup Championship today in Elk Grove. They also qualify for the Far West Regional Tournament that will be held June 18-24th in Pheonix, Arizona along with the Sporting 95 and Sporting 94 boys teams. This is the second state cup title for the 92 Boys Team.

Santa Clara had a short but intense State Cup tournament with one set of bracket games that went straight away to Semi-final games and the State Championship.  Sporting tied their first game 1-1 against the Palo Alto 93B Blue Team, then tied Redwood Juventus Black 93 team 0-0, then beat Oakdale United 2-0 in the semis. Today’s championship game was a rematch against Palo Alto, and both teams played in some pretty intense heat when the game started at 2pm in Elk Grove.  Neither team could score during regulation, and the deadlock was broken when Santa Clara scored the winning golden goal in overtime.
