The Santa Clara Sporting ’98 Green , ’97 Green, and ’93 girls teams all won the 2011 US Club Regional Tournament held last weekend in Modesto and earned a berth to compete in the US Club Soccer National Championship held July 29th-August 1st in Boise, Idaho. Santa Clara Sporting led the pack of teams in Modesto and won the most Regional Championship titles in Modesto.
Santa Clara Sporting ’98 Green Team
The Sporting ’98 Green Team won the U12 Super Group with a 1-0 victory over the ’99 Girls Azzurri team and were crowned champions in Modesto. Their tournament record was: a 7-1 smashing of the Stockton Storm FC 99 team, a 2-0 win over Diablo FC 98G, a 2-2 tie with FC Elk Grove 99G Navy, and the 1-0 victory in the finals against ’99 Girls Azzurri.

The Santa Clara Sporting ’97 Girls Green Team won the U13 Super Group and went undefeated winning four games including: a 5-2 win over Diable FC 97G in the opening game, then the team shut-out West Coast Wild 2-0, beat MFC Pride 98 with a 3-2 score in the semi-final match, and dominated the finals 4-1 over Everton 98 Blue. The team finished the tournament scoring 14 goals while only allowing 5 into their net. The ’97 Green Team have a busy summer schedule with the US Club Nationals and Surf Cup on their tournament schedule. Three of their players are also juggling their soccer schedules with a trip to the Regional ODP Camp in Moscow, Idaho after making selection from their Cal-North State ODP Team. Santa Clara Sporting ’93
The Sporting ’93 Girls won the U17 Super Group and their 3rd consecutive US Club Regional title in dominating fashion. They opened the tournament crushing FC Elk Grove 94 with a big 5-0 win, beat PSV Union FC 93G Gold 3-1, defeated the Central Valley Flames 2-1, and beat Ajax United Elite 2-0 in the semi-final match. The girls crusied to the championship win with an easy 5-0 win over the DeAnza Force ECNL U17 Academy Team. The team graduated four seniors that were recruited to play collegiate soccer this Fall. Alana Sooy will attend UC Irvine, Cheryl Tom heads to Cal-State Monterey, Kelly Skelton will play at Cal-State Chico, and Erika Emmanual will compete at UC Davis. The 2012 graduates will compete at the Pleasanton Rage Showcase and Surf Cup tournaments this Fall to continue with the college showcase and recruitment process. This is the first Santa Clara Sporting girls teams to finish their youth soccer careers in our club and recruit players to college soccer.
