Congratulations to the Santa Clara Sporting ’98 Girls Green Team for winning the 2010 District II Cup Tournament last weekend on November 21st. They beat the MVLA Typhoons 98G Blue Team 3-0 in their first game, then tied the Belmont Legend Team 0-0. Both Sporting and Belmont finished the first day of bracket play in a tie, so a coin toss was used to determine which teams they would face in the semi-final round. The Belmont Legends won the coin toss and was seeded into the easier semi-final game, while Santa Clara had to face the MVLA Typhoons 98G Black Team. The Typhoons 98G Black Team were CYSA league champions during the Fall season and a formidable opponent. But the Sporting girls rose to the challenge and beat MVLA 1-0 in a well played game. Santa Clara carried their momentum into the championship match and won the game 1-0 over the Orchard Valley Rampage Gold 98G Team. Hats off to Nicole Marquez who scored all five of the team’s goals last weekend. Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents! Go Sporting !
