The Sporting ’94 Team ended the Placer Prestige Cup as Finalists after a tough loss to Real San Francisco in near 100 degree temperatures at Cherry Island last weekend in Sacramento. The team won three games: a 2-0 victory over Mt. Hamilton PAC Brazil, a 5-0 win over CAP FC, and a 1-0 win in a penalty kick shoot-out against East Diablo Impact 94. The Semi-final match against East Diablo was a bruising physical battle and neither team could score during regulation play. Sporting had many chances to score but could not put a ball into the back of the Impact 94 Team’s goal. East Diablo were awarded a penalty kick in the first half of the game, and the ’94 Team’s goalie Ryan Foo blocked the shot to keep the game level 0-0. The game ended without a goal, and the match would be decided with an immediate penalty kick shoot-out. Ryan was on-fire and blocked three PKs to help win the semi-final match and send the team into the championships.
The final game was played in the middle of the day right when it was the hottest temperatures in Sacramento. The game was pretty evenly matched but Real San Francisco got a first half goal on a quick counter-attack, and was gifted a second goal in the 2nd half when the AR was sleeping and did not catch a SF forward who was completely offside. It was a well played match by both teams.
The ’94 team has two weeks to prepare for the Surf Cup Tournament at the end of the month.
